What business aspects have led to the success of Hickey Freeman?
Hickey Freeman is an American tailoring institution. We have been hand tailoring suits in America since 1899 so we have a very long standing reputation of quality and craftsmanship not only within the industry but with our clients as well.
I would say that our constant focus on product and making sure we are putting out the best at all times has been the reason that we have been a staple in luxury suiting for over 117 years. If you visit “The Temple” in Rochester, which is what we call our factory, you will see signs hanging from the roof that read “Keep the Quality Up” which is what we strive for each and every day.
What do you think is the future of tailoring? Do you see technology replacing the essential art of tailoring for instance, cutting, measuring or producing bespoke suits?
I see the future of tailoring going a little bit more towards tailored separates as opposed to only being focused on full suits. I don’t think that technology can or will be able to ever replace the art of tailoring.
If anything, technology can take the art out of tailoring. I do believe that technology will play a role but I don’t think that it will be the focus. I joined Hickey Freeman to start up our new Concierge Service which is a service where we visit the client at his location of choice to show him fabrics, fit him and take measurements.
I believe that the future of tailoring will be very much focused on service. In an industry where there are “bespoke tailoring brands” popping up every day, only the ones that are truly offering the best product and the best service will continue to survive and succeed.
What is Hickey Freeman’s unique value proposition and how do you acquire your customers?
One word. Fit. A Made to Measure and or bespoke suit will literally change the way you feel about suiting in general. At Hickey Freeman we really focus on getting the fit perfect as well as selecting the best fabric for each gentleman that we create a custom garment for.
Our made to measure suiting is also priced extremely well especially since all of our garments are made right here in America and are of full canvas construction with hand finishing. The convenience that we are offering with our new concierge service makes it much easier for our clients. Our clients are at the top of each of their respective fields and don’t have time to visit a store. Coming to their office or home saves them time as well as gives them the opportunity to work one-on-one with our specialists and really build up a relationship so that they can build their wardrobe in the best and most efficient way possible.
